Dell today introduced a new addition to its ultra-thin laptop series, the XPS 14z model, featuring a 14-inch screen in a 13-inch form factor and an internal optical drive, in a compact body that measures in at less than an inch thin.
Dell’s new 14z laptop is only 0.9-inch thick, has an anodized-aluminum finish and WLED display with 1366×768 resolution and edge-to-edge glass. Inside it packs the power of Intel’s Sandy Bridge Core i5 and i7 processors and NVIDIA GeForce GT 520M 1GB graphics card with Optimus technology. It can be equipped with up to 8GB of DDR3 memory,up to 750GB 7200RPM hard disk storage or a 256GB solid state drive option, and include the mandatory 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, USB 2.0/3.0 and HDMI ports.
The XPS 14z has a backlit, spill-resistant chiclet keyboard, 1.3MP HD Webcam with dual array digital microphones and boasts a built-in slot-load DVD writer. The entire laptop measures 23mm x335mmx 234mm and weighs starting 4.36 pounds, it offers up to six hours and 42 minutes of battery life.
The XPS 14z laptop will go on sale in the United States and Canada on November 1th, starting at $999 and in select geographies worldwide starting Nov. 15.
