If you’re wandering, can I listen to music under the shower from my phone, the Japanese company Murata will make your dream come true. They created the world’s first “ultra-thin waterproof piezoelectric speaker, with a thickness of only 0.9mm.
You know, the waterproofing of sound output holes in speakers is a particulary significant issue. So manufacturers have to cover the sound output holes with waterproof sheets. However, this solution often led to the degradation of sound quality, while adding excessive costs. The new Murata piezoelectric speakers don’t use any cover sheets and eliminate the costs for these materials and avoid reducing the sound quality. Pretty nice, isn’t it?
The new speakers are designed for use in portable devices such as cell phones, PDAs, digital cameras, they are now available available for 250 Yen ($2).
