Nikon Inc. announced its new D7000 digital SLR, which will replace the 2008’s D90 model. The camera is equipped with a new CMOS image sensor and a new improved EXSPEED 2 processing system, combined with the new Multi-CAM4800DX autofocus sensor, which enables 39 focus points.
The D7000 has a compact body, which measures 132 x 105 x 77 mm and has magnesium alloy top and rear covers for increased durability and also all joints on the camera body are sealed for water and dust resistance. The heart of the D7000 is a newly developed, 16.2 megapixel DX-format CMOS image sensor and EXPEED 2 image-processing engine, which enables faster image processing, a high level of noise reduction, better color reproduction characteristics, and reduced power consumption. The camera provide sensitivity range of ISO100 – 6400 and additional increases up to ISO 25,600 equivalent at full resolution, a new 2,016-pixel RGB metering sensor, Scene Recognition System which optimize focus, exposure and white balance, 6 fps continuous shooting with quick response – near-instant start-up time and approx. 0.052-second shutter-release time lag.
The D7000 also boast a newly developed 39-point autofocus system with nine cross-type points in the center and different AF-area mode, which you can select depending upon the scene or subject, such as: Single-point AF, Dynamic-area AF, 3D-tracking and Auto-area AF. 
The DSLR also features D-Movie function that enables recording of H.264 / MPEG-4 AVC Full HD (1,920 x 1080 pixel) HD movies and supports use of an external microphone for stereo sound.
The camera has a 3-innch, 920k-dot LCD monitor display with reinforced glass makes, to view the camera information, as well your photos and movies and you be able to store all you capture on SD, SDHC and SDXC memory cards.
The D7000 will start shipping from October 2010 at a retail price of $1,200 body-only.
Other functions and features new to the D7000
- A glass pentaprism for viewfinder frame coverage of approximately 100% and magnification of approximately 0.94×
- High-speed continuous shooting of up to 100 shots at approximately 6 fps, and a very precise and durable shutter unit that has passed testing for 150,000 cycles
- New U1 and U2 settings on the mode dial allow users to assign frequently used settings, including ISO sensitivity and exposure compensation, to these positions for instant recall of the registered settings by simply rotating the mode dial
- Live view function that can be smoothly enabled with the dedicated live view switch
- Double SD memory card slot that enable use of two SD memory cards (SDHC, SDXC also supported)
- The Rechargeable Li-ion Battery EN-EL15, which enables capture about 1,050 shots when fully charged
- Support for the new Multi-Power Battery Pack MB-D11 (sold separately), which holds not only Rechargeable Li-ion Batteries EN-EL15, but also AA batteries
- Nikon’s image browsing and editing software, ViewNX 2, supplied with purchase
