A-Data has unveiled a new flash memory USB device, named the S107, which according to the Taiwanese company is water proof.
The new flash device features a new body design that promises to protect user’s files under harsh conditions. The memory stick has protection against shock and water that meets military specifications and that makes it one step more secure and safe than most other such devices currently on the market. The protection is made out of rubber and can keep the flash device secure under water for 20 minutes at depth of 1 meter or less.
Other features include USB 3.0 support, red or blue body color, weight of just 13.6 grams, dimensions of 61.8 x 18.7 x 10.7mm (L x W x H) and capacities of 8, 16 and 32 GB. To use the drive the user must be running Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7. Mac users must have Mac OS 10.5 or later while Linux users must be running Kernel 2.6 or later.
A-Data claims transfer rates of up to 100 MB/sec sequential read speed and 50 MB/sec sequential write speed for the 32 GB device, while the other lower capacity devices feature lower speeds – the 16 GB comes with 100 MB/sec sequential read and 25 MB/sec sequential write speed; the 8 GB model reads at 95 MB/sec and writes at 15 MB/sec.
