Samsung launches Galaxy S III smartphone

The wait is finally over! Samsung has officially launched its long awaited Galaxy S III smartphone.

And let me tell you one thing – the Galaxy S III delivers everything promised and then more. Shall we start with the specs?

Weighing just 133 grams and being 8.6 mm thick the Galaxy S III comes with a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED HD display that works at 1280 x 720 pixel resolution, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, an 8 MP rear camera and a 1.9 MP front camera, 4G connectivity, 1 GB of RAM and Samsung’s quad-core Exynos processor running at 1.4 GHz.

But the Galaxy S III delivers more than expected – the smartphone now features eye-tracking that will allow the phone’s display to remain on while you are looking at it. This will be detected via the front-facing camera and will come in handy for those times when you are reading an e-book and the screen turns dark on you halfway.

Samsung has also included a demo of “S Voice” – clearly a response to Apple’s Siri – that can listen and then respond quickly in 8 different languages. You can tell S Voice to ‘snooze’ if your alarm goes off and you’re not quite ready to leave bed, you can use it to play your favorite songs, send texts, emails, organize your schedule or even take photos.

As to storage the Galaxy S III currently offers 16 GB or 32 GB of capacity depending on model although Samsung currently works on a 64 GB model. You will also find Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a microUSB port, a GPS receiver with A-GPS, a 3.5 mm audio jack, FM radio, TV Out, USB-on-the-go and a NFC chip as well as TouchWiz 4.0 UI, DivX/XviD codec support, built-in accelerometer, multi-touch input, proximity sensor, gyroscope sensor, Swype text input and RGB light.

All this is powered by a 2100 mAh battery and the Galaxy S III also offers wireless charging but you will need a dock for this purpose.

The Samsung Galaxy S III will be available for purchase starting on May 29 in Europe. Pricing is unknown.
