Hynix, a well-known Taiwanese memory maker, has finally decided to enter the SSD business, which is not a surprising decision given that the company makes own memory chips.
So here’s the first Hynix SSD drive – the SH910 – which comes in a 2.5-inch form factor and a thin chassis – just 7 mm – all based on the company’s own MLC NAND flash memory.
The Hynix SH910 also features the infamous SandForce SF-2281 controller, SMART, TRIM and NCQ technologies and (!) 128-bit AES encryption – note that due to the problems with 256-bit encryption the SandForce SF-2281 controller is no longer labelled as supporting 256-bit encryption.
Size-wise the SH910 SSD comes in just two models – with 128 GB and 256 GB capacity that sport 60 000 and 35 000 IOPS (reading/writing), while transfer speeds reach 520 MB/sec and 500 MB/sec respectively.
Sadly, Hynix did not disclose any information on pricing and market availability.
