The Japanese company I-O Data has launched the HDPC-UT line of portable hard drives that not only feature SuperSpeed USB 3.0 but also come in different color combinations – red/brown and white/gray.
There are just two drives as of now that come with 500 GB and 1 TB of capacity. Being USB-based the drives rely for power on the data cable but despite being USB 3.0 they are also fully compatible with the older (and slower) USB 2.0 standard. The drives are pre-formatted and include Windows installers for the company’s Mach Copy software, which works to speed up file transfers with the drive.
The 500 GB version is priced at 10 500 Japanese yen (around 168 USD), while the more spacious 1 TB version costs 15 015 yen (approximately 240 USD).
