Summer 2012 is mostly over (in case you reside in the Northern Hemisphere, that is) but there’s still time to go out and enjoy nature. If you are an adventurer and a nature lover then Olympus has a new digital camera for you – and you can take it anywhere thanks to its “tough” capabilities.
The name says it too – the Olympus Tough TG-320 is designed for all those people who take pictures in harsh conditions and this is why it is waterproof up to a depth of 3 meters, shockproof against falls from up to 1.5 meters and it can endure temperatures as low as minus 10 degrees Celsius.
Specs-wise the camera comes with a 14 MP sensor, optical zoom of 3.6x, 28 mm wide angle lens, a 2.7-inch TFT display with 230K dots, a built-in flash and a weight of just 155 grams but it does not support the RAW file format.
Additionally to prevent picture blur due to camera shake and subject motion, the TG-320 features DUAL IS which uses a CCD-shift image stabilisation mechanism and high-sensitivity image capturing, by an equivalent of up to 4 shutter speed stops. The Olympus Tough TG-320 can also record HDTV (1280 x 720 pixels) movies in MPEG-4 AVC / H.264 format.
For easy picture taking the camera comes with 8 Magic Filters – Pop, Pin Hole, Fisheye, Sketch, Soft Focus and Punk all inherited from the previous model, and the newly-added Watercolour and Sparkle. Magic Movies recordings are available in Pop, Sketch, Fisheye, Soft Focus, Punk and Watercolour, giving them a distinct look and artistic feel. Finally the camera features a face-detecting Pet Mode and support for Eye-Fi SDHC memory cards.
In Singapore the camera will sell for 348 Singapore dollars, which is approximately 277 USD.
