Qualcomm’s flagship processor – the Snapdragon 800 – will apparently soon find its way into Smart TVs. Designed to power the next generation of smartphones and tablets the new chip is powerful and “smart” enough to serve you in the next generation of Smart TVs too thanks to internal support for some very progressive technologies, which can make it do a lot of stuff with no external help.
The Snapdragon 800 is a rather logical choice as the chip supports the latest Ultra HD standard natively – something that will be widely implemented in a few years time. The Snapdragon 800 has another trump in its sleeve too – support for 802.11ac Wi-Fi, which means not only support for the fastest Wi-Fi standard as of now but also access to the Internet at any place in your house.
The first TV sets on the Snapdragon 800 are not expected soon but they will eventually hit the market. Analysts expect the chip to be used in at least 55 other devices except in tablets and smartphones.
