NVIDIA has struck back at AMD’s announcement of the Radeon HD 7990 by stating it would release a new card under the name of GeForce GTX 780 at the end of May 2013.
The statement has surprised many but prepare for some disappointment – NVIDIA does not plan to introduce an entirely new architecture this year – instead the 7th generation of GeForce cards will count on improved Kepler chips. Thus the GeForce GTX 780 will be no other but the already reported GeForce GTX TITAN LE graphics card – a solution that will come with 2496 stream processors, 5 GB of GDDR5 memory, a GK110 chip and a 320-bit memory bus. The GeForce GTX 780 is expected to be around 30 per cent faster than the GeForce GTX 680 with the newcomer expected to cost around USD 499-599.
In mid-May NVIDIA will also launch the GeForce GTX 770 – a graphics card based on a revised GK104 core with 1536 stream processors, 4 GB of GDDR5 memory and a 256-bit memory bus. The GTX 770 is expected to be around 20-25 per cent faster than the GeForce GTX 670.
Finally NVIDIA fans will get to see the GeForce GTX 760 Ti – a re-branded version of the GeForce GTX 670. The card will have the same GK104 chip with 1344 stream processors, a 256-bit memory bus and 2 GB of GDDR5 memory. The GPU runs at 915 MHz while the memory operates at 6008 MHz. Expected in early June 2013 the GTX 760 Ti should be 20-23 per cent faster than the GeForce GTX 660 Ti.
