The first specs and pictures of the upcoming AMD Radeon HD 8970 graphics card have made it online. The pics show a typical AMD graphics card in red and black that looks almost like a regular HD 7990 video card but the magic is inside the new hardware that the HD 8970 will come with.
The new AMD card will be based on a 28 nm GPU known as Curacao XT. Based on GCN 2.0 architecture the chip will measure 420 mm and will offer 2304 stream processors, 144 texture units and 48 ROPs. The card will boast 6 GB of GDDR5 memory at 6000 MHz with a 384-bit bus that makes it possible to push 288 GB of data per second. The GPU will run at 1000 MHz and will reach 5.07 TFLOPS of computing power making the HD 8790 35 percent faster than the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition. In addition the HD 8790 will have a BIOS reset button, two CrossFire connectors and 8-pin and 6-pin power connectors.
The HD 8790 will be available later this year. The card will sell for USD 599.
