Sad news for AMD fans and owners of the Radeon HD 7000 and Radeon HD 8000 (OEM) series of graphics cards – the upcoming DirectX 11.2 will not be supported on these products.
DirectX 11.2 will arrive in mid-October along with Windows 8.1 and will bring a handful of revolutionary consumer 3D features such as D3D tiled resources, which is analogous to OpenGL mega-textures; in addition the latest Microsoft API will offer HLSL shader linking, frame buffer scaling and more.
The problem with the support of DirectX 11.2 is not hidden in the hardware – the Graphics Core Next architecture in the Southern Islands and Sea Island includes support for these features; instead the driver that sits behind DirectX 11.2 will not support these GPUs. Bad, bad Microsoft!
