The famous memory and storage solutions maker Kingston has announced the official release of a new M.2 format SSD line that will be known as M.2 2280. The new line will have three models with capacities of 120 GB, 240 GB and 480 GB but as of now only the 120 GB model will be shipped next week.
“We are proud to release the new M.2 form factor to the channel for both consumer and corporate customers upgrading their systems, as well as the system builder community when designing new embedded applications,” said Ariel Perez, SSD business manager, Kingston. “This is an exciting follow-up to our previously released OEM-only M.2 2260 SATA SSD used in certain models of the ASUS Zenbook.”
The new drives measure 22 x 80 mm and come in a thin, caseless and compact form factor that is perfect for notebooks, ultrabooks, thin computing devices and motherboards that offer support for the new M.2 form factor. As with most other solid-state drives the new M.2 2280 line fully supports garbage collection, wear leveling, S.M.A.R.T. and TRIM for consistent drive performance. The drives reach 550 MB/sec when reading and 520 MB/sec when writing and weigh just 7.36 grams. Kingston promises 1 million hours of MTBF and a 3-year warranty with free technical support too.
There’s no word on pricing though.
