The popular Taiwanese motherboard maker MSI has demonstrated a new line of eco-friendly motherboards that protect nature by requiring very little power in order to operate properly. All of them target Intel processors and are based on H81, B85 and H97 chipsets.
The so-called H81M ECO, B85M ECO and H97M ECO models are low-power versions of existing motherboards and they all come in the popular Micro-ATX format. The main advantage of the new MSI products is that they feature more efficient hardware that reduces overall power consumption. In addition to that there’s a software side too as MSI allows users to turn off unused motherboard components such as integrated audio, USB ports and more. Users will be able to turn off components in the UEFI BIOS too.
In a test staged to convince users in the energy efficiency of the new motherboards MSI has measured the overall power consumption which has turned out to be less than an energy efficient light bulb. All in all the latest MSI motherboard need less than 15 watts of power in order to operate.
Unfortunately the Taiwanese company has said nothing on the availability of the eco-friendly boards. The same goes for their prices too.
