The Microsoft Windows operating system rules the desktop PC world but this is not true when it comes to tablets despite all efforts by the US software maker. In a bid to improve Windows-based tablets the Redmond-based company made Windows for tablets free but only for devices that have displays smaller than 9 inches. Unfortunately this tactic seems to have failed in North America as one of the largest sellers of Windows-based tablets – Lenovo – ends sales of certain Windows tablets on the North American market.
The Lenovo models that are to be removed from sales are ThinkPad 8 and Miix 2 8. Both models come with 8-inch displays and meet Microsoft’s requirements for using a free version of Windows. The tablets that have not been sold will be moved to other markets that include Brazil, China and Japan where demand for small-sized tablets is stronger.
Right now US customers can still purchase these models online for USD 399 (ThinkPad 8) and USD 299 (Miix 2 8).
