The hardware community has been lately focused on the new Tonga GPU that is scheduled to be revealed on August 23 but there are new and interesting developments in the AMD graphics camp. More precisely a yet unannounced AMD Radeon R7 250XE video card has been seen in Japan.
There’s no news or information on the product on AMD’s web site and there’s little information on the new card and the GPU inside. What we know is that the Radeon R7 250XE does have the same specs as the Radeon R7 250X, which are a Cape Verde GPU at 1 GHz and memory at 4500 MHz with TDP of 95 watts. This leaves two possibilities – the Radeon R7 250XE comes with either a new GPU revision or lowered power consumption. There’s a third option, according to some web sites, and that is AMD is actually trying to have a competitor to the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750/750 Ti. As a side note we will mention that the mysterious card has 1 GB of GDDR5 memory on board.
The Radeon R7 250XE is definitely a nice surprise but this card may not come to market at all, just like many other products. For example back in the day AMD had Sempron processors for the Socket 939 platform that were never released. This might turn out to be the same case in the long run. Who knows, though – we might be treated with this card on August 23 as well.
