Day after day it becomes clear that NVIDIA will skip the GeForce GTX 800 family line by offering the GTX 900 line instead. While we are not sure why the famous GPU maker will do this, we know that there will be high-end models in the new line, which has always been the norm. Quite easily we can assume that there will be a high-end GeForce GTX 980 model, just like before.
AMD thinks so too and the company is so sure there will be such a launch it has prepared a competitor – the Radeon R9 390X. There’s little information on the new card except that it looks like a single GPU version of the Radeon R9 295X and has a cooler designed for one GPU only if we judge by the image of the new card. We can say that the Radeon R9 390X will have one serious advantage – the card will be as quiet as possible even if this means using a liquid cooling solution. Of course AMD partners making this card will be able to use non-reference coolers too.
Unfortunately just like with the GTX 980, the tech specs of the R9 390X are a mystery as is the launch date so stay tuned for more information when it becomes available.
