About 6 months ago the latest DDR4 memory standard debuted as a high-end memory solution, which is to be used with the fastest hardware there is. DDR4 is slowly losing its crown, though, as more value-oriented memory modules have started popping up on the market. Now hardware enthusiasts will have access to value DDR4 memory too, thanks to Transcend, which has announced what seems to be the world’s first value-oriented DDR4 memory.
The new Transcend memory modules come in various forms that include UDIMMs, RDIMMs, ECC-DIMMs and ECC SO-DIMMs but other than that there isn’t anything special with this memory since it is a value solution. The memory runs at 2133 MHz providing 17 GB/sec of memory bandwidth, runs at 1.2V and is available in capacities that range from 4 GB to 32 GB. We suspect that Transcend offers just two modules with 4 GB and 8 GB of capacity and to achieve higher capacities it combines them in memory kits. Currently the memory can only be used with Intel’s X99 Haswell-E platform but with the arrival of the Intel Skylake generation DDR4 will become a mainstream solution.
Transcend’s new DDR4 memory fully meets all JEDEC (Joint Electron Device Engineering Council) standards and comes with the company’s renowned Limited Lifetime Warranty.
