AMD’s main chip business in the past few years has depended almost entirely on APUs so we should not be surprised if we see a new AMD-branded accelerated processing unit on the market any time soon. In fact there will be one such chip coming out this year and it will be called Nolan.
Nolan will not be something huge, however. According to AMD the upcoming processor will be a “mild” update to the Beema/Mullins platform and will come in an FP4 BGA package. Inside Nolan will feature the well-known Puma+ architecture and this is everything we know of this chip. Surprisingly Nolan will debut in Q3 2015 on the somewhat old 28 nm tech process instead on the more advanced 20 nm production process. The APU will support Windows and Android when it comes to market.
Along with Nolan AMD will release its first ARM processor which currently carries the Amur code name. Amur will sport 20 nm production process and will have ARM Cortex-A57 cores that will be able to run Android and Linux.
