A year after the introduction of the first desktop DDR4 memory, notebook DDR4 memory modules have started appearing here and there. Unlike desktop DDR4, though, mobile DDR4 memory will likely take the market by storm.
Why will this happen? Here’s an explanation – the first notebook DDR4 memory has come in large capacities and with high clock speed. The trend continues now – Apacer has presented the world’s first SO-DIMM DDR4 memory with a capacity of 16 GB per memory module!
The new Apacer SO-DIMM DDR4 memory is called Nox and carries the name of an ancient Roman goddess that represented power and mysterious energy. The Nox comes with some very impressive specs – the memory runs at 3000 MHz at just 1.2V and given the 16 GB of capacity it comes with, you can equip a notebook with 32 GB or more of DDR4 in a matter of minutes. No matter what you think, 32 GB of RAM is still a very serious thing!
As you probably imagine by now the new Nox memory will target high-end notebooks and hardware enthusiasts so expect to see it in new generation gaming notebooks. Unfortunately not much more is known about the new Apacer memory so we won’t be able to share pricing details or even latencies with you. The Apacer Nox memory, however, will be very soon on the market, and we expect this to happen the minute Intel announces its new mobile Skylake processors.
