A few months ago we discussed information, which back then claimed Microsoft would have a few new smartphones by fall 2015. Well, we haven’t heard much since but there’s new and interesting information now – a yet unreleased Microsoft smartphone has been seen in an online Swiss store.
The handset is called Lumia 550 and sells for CHF 113.90, which is around USD 120/EUR 105. The funny thing is that Microsoft hasn’t announced such a model just yet so we suspect that the online offer is just for preorders. In any case the Lumia 550 will be an interesting smartphone – it will be the first one from the 5th series with support for LTE and it will run Windows 10 Mobile out of the box. Given that Windows 10 Mobile will likely come out on October 6, the chances that the online offer is just for preorders are skyrocketing.
What we know, however, is that the Lumia 550 (presumably) will come with a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 chipset at 1.1 GHz, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal memory, a 5 MP/1.2 MP rear/front camera combo, and a 4.7-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 dots. This makes it a budget-oriented device (and the price up there suggests that too) but the Lumia 550 has never asked to be more than this. In addition the handset, which will retire the Lumia 640, is expected in two colors – black and white.
In any case expect the Lumia 550 to arrive any time soon.
