Samsung has presented the Exynos 8 8890 processor, which is the same one we reported one a while ago. The chip will be tasked with powering one of the versions of the upcoming Galaxy S7 smartphone.
The Exynos 8 8890 chip is the second Samsung SoC made on 14 nm FinFET process and the first Samsung processor that uses cores designed by Samsung that rely on ARM’s ARMv8 architecture using 64-bit technology. The processor has eight cores inside, four of which are Samsung’s own, and four Cortex-A53. Samsung says this configuration provides both energy efficiency and high performance. In addition to this the Exynos 8 8890 has LTE Rel.12 Cat. 12/13 with maximum bandwidth of 600 Mbit/sec and Mali-T880 graphics. The new processor will be in mass production by the end of 2015.
In the meantime the launch date of the Samsung Galaxy S7 has been set for February 21, which is just a day before MWC 2016 takes place (February 22-27, 2016).
