The Chinese company Sage Microelectronics has designed a new SSD that comes with the awesome capacity of 10 TB. The main advantage of the new device is that it fully conforms to standard SSD dimensions – it sports the popular 2.5-inch form factor and is 9.5 mm thick.
The new SSD is called BlackDisk and uses a 1-layer PCB, which allows the industry-standard thickness of 9.5 mm. In addition the drive makes use of a company memory controller that directly works with the memory modules inside, of which there are 20 with each one of them offering 256 GB of capacity. Unfortunately there’s no information on the read/write speed of the new SSD but it has support for the new and more efficient eRAIDTM firmware algorithm that keeps the high performance of the SSD during long usage periods.
The new 10 TB BlackDisk SSD will be in stores sometime in 2016. There’s no word how much the drive costs right now.
