New device adds touchscreen capability to laptops

Laptops are more than common nowadays – they offer decent computing power, various hardware features and portability, which means you can take all your games and work files with you, no matter where you go. Yet most notebooks do not come with sensor displays due to cost issues – simply said most people do not want to pay extra for this feature.

All this will soon go into history – a company called Neonode will present a unique device at the upcoming CES 2016 that will give any laptop display touchscreen capabilities. The device is called AirBar and plugs into any USB port. Moreover it does not require special software and starts working once you plug it in.

AirBar works by emitting an invisible light field that is called zForce AIR. When touching the display, users interrupt the light field, which then tells AirBar where you have touched the display. In turn the device will communicate this information to the notebook, which will then respond accordingly. Voila! This is how you get touchscreen capabilities on any notebook screen. How does this sound?

As of now AirBar supports Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10 and even some Chromebook devices but currently there’s no support for Mac OS X notebooks. In addition the device works with just 15.6-inch displays as of now, which is kind of a downside but we cannot deny its advantages. Really, have you ever thought you could get a touchscreen-enabled desktop so easily? The best part is that AirBar will cost just USD 49 when it launches sometime next year.
