The US company Kingston Technology has expanded its solid-state drive portfolio with the release of the new SSDNow G2 SSD line for the OEM market. The new SSDs are small enough to fit in ultrabooks, notebooks and even tablets and follow the M.2 2280 form factor, while providing support for SATA 3.0.
The new SSDNow G2 line is based on the Phison PS3110-S10C memory controller and offers three models with capacities of 120 GB, 240 GB and 480 GB. The drives likely use MLC NAND flash memory, although this has not been officially confirmed. The 120 GB model comes with the SM2280S3G2/120G code name and offers 550 MB/sec of read speed and 200 MB/sec of write speed as well as 80 000/40 000 reading/writing IOPS and 150 TB of TBW (total bytes written). The 240 GB model is also known as SM2280S3G2/240G – it comes with 550 MB/sec of read speed and 330 MB/sec of write speed as well as with 79 000/79 000 reading/writing IOPS and 300 TB of TBW. Finally we have the 480 GB model with its SM2280S3G2/480G code name – this one offers 550 MB/sec of read speed, 520 MB/sec of write speed, 80 000/80 000 reading/writing IOPS and 800 TB of TBW.
The prices of the new SSDs are unknown as of now.
