Just as expected (and promised) on July 19 NVIDIA released its mid-range GeForce GTX 1060 video card to the masses. We know most of the tech specs of the newcomer by now but we should give some credit to the US GPU maker – announced just two weeks ago the GeForce GTX 1060 can now be in your hands with no problems – given you have the cash, of course. This makes it one of the fastest market launches ever when it comes to video cards.
So let’s pay some attention to the GTX 1060. As expected the card features the GP106 Pascal GPU which has been manufactured on 16 nm FinFET process. The chip comes with 1280 CUDA cores that run at 1506 MHz in nominal mode but they can also operate at 1708 MHz in Turbo mode. The GP106 GPU has 80 texture units and 48 ROPs. In addition to this the reference GeForce GTX 1060 model features 6 GB of GDDR5 memory and a 192-bit memory bus. The memory runs at 8000 MHz and pumps 194.6 GB/sec of data to the GPU.
At the back the GTX 1060 comes equipped with three DisplayPort 1.4 connectors, one HDMI 2.0b port and another DL-DVI connector. The card needs some more power and this is why it comes with an additional 6-pin power connector. The power consumption of the GTX 1060 is around 120 watts under load.
The Founders Edition version of the GeForce GTX 1060 sells now for around USD 299, while non-reference versions can now be found for as low as USD 249. Unfortunately the GTX 1060 does not support SLI. The new NVIDIA card is now in stores where you can choose among brands such as ASUS, EVGA, MSI and others.
