Microsoft’s Windows OS has been known for years for its numerous bugs and security holes – a fact that has created a sort of aura around Apple’s OS X. It turns out however that Mac users are not immune to bugs too.
David Emery, a computer security specialist, has discovered a serious bug in the latest 10.7.3 Mac OS release that threatens the users’ data. The essence of the bug is hidden in the information you need to log in, which is stored in the debug log in an unencrypted form and any user with administrative rights and access to the computer can retrieve it.
The bug only threatens users who have Mac OS X 10.7.3 and still use the older version of the FileVault encryption software that is integrated in the OS. Users of the newer FileVault 2 software should not worry.
Okay, everybody makes mistakes, right? The saddest part, however, is that Apple has known about the bug since last February but so far has not fixed the issue.
Windows may not be the best OS but at least Microsoft fixes it, unlike Apple.
