Sources close to AMD have leaked unofficial information on the upcoming AMD Radeon Volcanic Islands family. According to this information the new video card line will arrive in Q3 2013 and will consist of four models – the HD 8970 (Curacao XT), HD 8950 (Hainan XT), HD 8870 (Hainan Pro) and HD 8850 (Hainan LE).
Here’s a quick specs list – the HD 8970 should come with 2304 stream processors, 144 TMUs, 48 ROPs and 6 GB of GDDR5 memory with a 384-bit bus. The GPU will run at 1100 MHz, while the memory will operate at 7000 MHz. The card is expected to cost around USD 600.
The HD 8950 will have 1792 stream processors, 112 TMUs, 32 ROPs and 4 GB of GDDR5 memory with a 256-bit bus. The GPU/memory clock speed configuration is as follows: 1200/7000 MHz. As to pricing the HD 8950 should be around USD 400.
The HD 8870 will have 1536 stream processors, 96 TMUs, 32 ROPs and 2 GB of GDDR5 memory with a 256-bit memory bus. The GPU will run at 1100 MHz, while the memory will operate at 6000 MHz. The card should cost USD 300.
Finally the HD 8850 will have 1280 stream processors, 80 TMUs, 32 ROPs and 2 GB of GDDR5 memory with a 256-bit memory bus. Clock speeds are as follows – the GPU will operate at 1000 MHz, while the memory will hit 6000 MHz. The card is expected to cost USD 230.
