Gigabyte Technology has unveiled no less than five new motherboards for Intel’s latest and greatest Skylake processors but the interesting thing about the newcomers is that they also support Intel’s Xeon processors on the Skylake architecture as well as DDR4 ECC memory. The boards are grouped in two series – X150 and X170 and come with tons of features including Intel’s C232 (X150) and C236 (X170) chipsets.
The boards’ features are too many to describe here but rest assured that they come with the latest Intel LGA 1151 and expansion technologies. For instance the first PCIe lane on the new X170 and X150 boards is an x16 Gen.3 lane that has a direct connection to the processor, offering 128 Gb/sec of unrestricted bandwidth to graphics cards for excellent 2D and 3D performance. In addition the boards have support for USB 3.1 and USB Type-C but there’s also backwards compatibility with the older USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 standards so you can enjoy better compatibility over a wide range of devices. The new Gigabyte motherboards also have support for M.2 solid-state drives and even RAID storage arrays. The designers of these boards have thought of networking – the X170-Extreme ECC model features the Killer E2400 Gigabit Ethernet Controller, which provides additional intelligence by automatically detecting and prioritizing specific website traffic in addition to networked applications and games.
There are no additional details on the new Gigabyte X150 and X170 motherboards, including on pricing, so if you are interested in them, check with your local Gigabyte representative.
