The famous US hard drive maker Seagate has announced that shipments of its Seagate Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD v4 have commenced. The company claims this is the world’s fastest enterprise hard drive with capacity of 6 TB and a look at the specs suggests that this is true.
“Unstructured data growth is doubling exponentially and will propel the digital universe to reach 16 Zettabytes of data by as early as 2017. This will cause cloud service providers to look for innovative ways to store more within an existing footprint while lowering operational costs,” said Scott Horn, Seagate vice president of marketing. “Seagate is poised to address this challenge by offering the fastest 6TB enterprise capacity HDD based on our proven, reliable platform meeting this never-ending demand in both private and public cloud data centers.”
The Seagate Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD v4 targets cloud storage companies and corporate clients. It offers the impressive capacity of 6 TB and two interfaces – SATA 3.0 and SAS 12 Gbit/s. The drive comes in the common 3.5-inch form factor and spins at 7200 rpm. Seagate says that the new hard drive features 50 percent higher data density when compared to 4 TB drives and this makes it 25 per cent faster than other 6 TB hard drives. In addition the drive is resistant against vibrations and comes with an internal encryption system.
The drive is now shipped to various Seagate partners around the world. The price of the new Seagate product is not known, however.
