The Xperia name is trying to join the world of high-value Android brands. This month, at the Mobile World Congress in Spain we will see a whole new range of Sony Xperia devices. Yes, “Sony Xperia” not “Sony Ericsson Xperia.”
Sony decided to focus on creating a more unified vision for its mobile devices, so the company bought out its mobile partner Ericsson.
Sony wants to have complete control over how smartphones and tablets play into its equation in a world, where consumers are increasingly connecting all their consumer electronics together. The company’s cell phone division now is under the name Sony Mobile Communications.
It’ll be very interesting to see how Sony progresses in the market without Ericsson breathing down in their back.
